We’re well aware of the dangers of over-exposure to the sun’s rays, but even so, the acronyms and figures of suncare products can be a bit confusing. So we’d like to offer some information and tips on how to stay safe in the sun.
We’re used to seeing SPF on our sunscreens, and it says exactly what it means – Sun Protection Factor - indicating how well a sun product will protect against the sun’s ultraviolet rays.
This UV light is divided into two groups;
UVB, responsible for tanning, but can lead to sunburn.
UVA also responsible for tanning, but causing premature ageing of the skin.
There are 4 categories of SPF;
Low Protection SPF 6-10
Medium Protection SPF 15-20-25
High Protection SPF 30-50
Very High Protection SPF 50+
At L’Erbolario, we have products in each of these categories, for the face, body, lips and hair We also focus on suncare for children’s delicate skin.
This range of products allows you to choose the level of sun protection that suits you – depending on your skin type, the time of day and the time of year.
All our sun care products have the symbol PAO on the packaging. This gives you Period After Opening, indicating for how many months the product will retain its efficacy.
So, whether you are looking for protection whilst you achieve your golden tan, or whether you’re want a total
cover-up, remember to apply your product generously, give yourself a good half hour before you go out in the sun, and re-apply every hour.
